Atlanta Nominated to Host National Charities Conference
Dr. T. D. Longino of Atlanta led efforts to land the national conference of charities and corrections for Atlanta in 1903. A certified check of 1400 dollars was offered to guarantee expenses, with Portland and Dallas also bidding. The decision favored Atlanta after assurances from Kentucky’s George J. Sehon and strong backing from Ohio and southern delegates. The Detroit meeting drew about 1500 attendees and spent an estimated 25000 dollars. Atlanta aims for mid spring next year.
