Atlanta OKs $260000 crematory plant purchase
Atlanta council ratified a $260 000 outright purchase of the New York Destructor crematory plant after negotiations led by W G Humphrey and Attorney George Spence. The city will pay $125 000 now and $135 000 later, with the balance held back until the plant proves it can burn garbage for 25 cents per ton. Mayor James G Woodward praised the deal saying it will save about $66 000 in city debt and reduce interest and maintenance costs by roughly $22 800. The decision came despite opposition and will trigger a June financial sheet and payments subject to 7 percent interest if delayed.
