Plan to Bar Kinsman Of Atlanta Teachers From Education Board
Councilman Claude L Ashley announced a plan to introduce at the next general council meeting an ordinance barring from the Atlanta Public School system any kin of a board of education member. The measure also forbids serving on the board if a family member teaches in the system. An alderman introduced a similar ordinance, approved by the ordinance committee, and will be sent to general council with a recommendation for passage. The proposal also seeks to require board members to resign if they become connected with a book concern. Ashley urged adding a provision preventing kin from teaching in the system, while committee members would back it if offered independently. Another ordinance, introduced by Alderman Seawrigh, would ban slaughter of cattle under fifty pounds on city land, and was approved by the committee to harmonize city and state law.
