Tampico July 16 decree by Governor Villareal orders expulsion of all foreign Catholic priests and Jesuits from Nuevo Leon and bans confessional practice. Remaining priests must prove political abstention. churches open 6 AM to 1 PM. confession prohibited. sacristy off limits. bells restricted to official celebrations. some colleges closed. penalties include fines and imprisonment. five churches allowed to reopen in Monterey.
Tampico July 20 Carranza reiterates refusal to recognize any Huerta land grants or financial transactions. He notes that world bankers were informed and denies a proposed sale of vast lower California lands at one cent an acre. Cradock reportedly pressed Carranza over concessions to British interests.
Los Angeles July 37 An official estimates the state will spend 100 to enable Charles Wilson the sole voter in his precinct on Catalina Island to cast a ballot. Three voters will travel from Avalon to the Isthmus to form the election board, record Wilson’s vote, and certify the returns.
A large fire at Bourbon stock yards Louisville roiled the area killing about a thousand sheep and burning forty railroad cars. Total damage estimated at 250000 dollars with 175000 dollars to the yards. City fire brigade fought for hours to control the blaze that also destroyed cottages along the stream. The cause remains unknown. A tank car explosion near the tracks worsened the spread.
Chicago on July 27 reports mediation between the ninety eight western railroads and their engineers and firemen yielded a victory as the men agreed to extend negotiations. July 26 had been set as the final date for conferences. The mediation board met with railroad general managers committees and prepared to conform with the men after a postponement notice. The board has given up on direct settlement and now seeks arbitration.
Rome Ga July 37 Special Coronel J Lindsay Johnson editor of The Rome Tribune Herald leaves to morrow for the Philippines and will make a complete census of the population wealth manufactures etc of the insular possessions along of the United States The work will occupy two years Colonel Johnson will sail from San Francisco on August 3 He will be accompanied by his daughter Miss Letitia Johnson.
Mrs Anthony Caminetti wife of the commissioner general of immigration said she would seek the democratic nomination if no party candidate opposed Republican Charles F Curry in the third district She spoke from San Francisco on July 27 stating she would run by write in if needed and circumstances permitted
New York city Democrats in the house conferred here today and agreed to ask for a conference with President Wilson to go over party questions. Representatives Cantor and Lévy, who took exception to any interference in the president's policy in any way, were absent.
A delegation from the Ancient Order of Hibernians, fresh from its Norfolk Va convention, was received today by President Wilson at the White House in Washington.

Joseph Caillaux former French premier introduced documents alleging Figaro agreement with the Hungarian government and revealed Calmette will details. A playwright deposition by Henri Fernstein triggered court disruption as accusations and insults flew.
Perry Oklahoma July 27 a farmer Gottlieb Wigger shot and killed his herd of horses found buried in a pasture and then took his own life as foreclosure loomed over the animals. A letter in the stable expressed grief and reliance on the animals for comfort describing their bond and fear of losing them.
Washington reports that Fres Mont Wilson may withdraw Paul M. Warburg from the federal reserve board nomination. The White House urged Warburg to appear before the Senate Banking Committee, while Senator Owen and Senator O’Gorman pressed for a committee meeting. Warburg replied by referencing Senator O’Gorman, and discussions concluded with no final public result yet.
After a two hour Monday conference between Congressman Howard and Marshall Nelms and Justice Department officials in Washington, federal agents will investigate the Nelms sisters case across western cities. The inquiry will probe Victor J. Innes relations with Elois Nelms Dennis who left Atlanta last June for San Antonio to marry the Portland attorney. The probe invokes the White Slave Act and spans Carson City Salt Lake City Portland Galveston New Orleans Houston and San Antonio. Continuous instructions are awaited from the central office as postal officials report a letter from Mrs V E Innes requesting mail holds be forwarded to San Antonio. Continued on Page Three.
Great Britain invites the powers to an ambassadorial conference to address disputes between Austria and Serbia. Russia backing Serbia could trigger a German response. Emperor William says peace rests with the Czar, yet Austria may move forces against Serbia today as tension remains high.
Frankfort dispatch from the Frankfurter Zeitung argues that peace in Europe rests with Russia not Emperor William. The paper says Germany has nothing to gain from war and urges Russia, ruler of the peace congress, to decide war or peace by its own hand.
London July 27 reports indicate an engagement between Austrians and Servians on the Danube but no details, not deemed important. Austria has not opened military operations yet. Diplomacy continues on two tracks to avert or localize war. Sir Edward Grey proposes joint mediation, with France and Italy said to accept. Germany’s reply is awaited.
