Massive cotton press deal eyed by eastern syndicate
New Orleans and New York are the focus of one of the Souths largest industrial and financial deals. A $1 million deposit leads toward control of twenty cotton presses in New Orleans with a multi million closing price. The syndicate, tied to Carnegie interests, plans cash and preferred stock payments and aims to consolidate the cotton press system amid a bale type struggle. In a separate Oklahoma bid, cotton oil mills face a failed plan to form a regional combine, with options expiring August 1.
