Senators Favor Rights For Women Passage Of Bill
The Senate backed full civil rights for women in a Boykin bill by a 35 to 4 vote, sending it to the House. The measure removes most restrictions on civil privileges, allows women to hold offices, but exempts them from jury service, police and road duties. Boykin urged adoption, arguing Georgia should grant women rights already enjoyed elsewhere. The heated debate included calls to table the measure and a pledge to advance it. The chamber also passed a separate bill on Sunday freight train operations and tobacco sale regulation without opposition. The Senate adjourned until Monday.

Meteoric rock shocks Georgia geologist then tickles him
Dr W T McCallie, Georgia geologist, was amused when a report of a meteor near Chattanooga prompted his joke filled reaction. He recalled a chatty exchange with Secretary of State McLendon and a relative in Chattanooga who offered a simpler, less dramatic explanation for the event as a large rock that rolled from a mountain and landed in a farmer’s field.
