She admitted lifelong laudanum use since age sixteen and said she only felt dying when a stomach pump was used by an ambulance surgeon.
A Spring field dispatch says Jacob S. Coxey, the commonweal reformer, will be the Populist nominee for governor. T. L. Creager notes Coxey as the sole candidate and likely to be nominated by acclamation at Columbus on September 1 and 2.
Washington reports Captain Coffee's company the Florida Volunteers stationed at Tampa Bay during the Mexican War is deemed not in service in that war and its members are not pensionable under the pension law.

A cyclone swept Silver City causing near total destruction and many deaths. Communications are cut off and mortuary details are unverified as couriers race to reach the town. bridges are demolished and recovery work is just beginning.
Washington July 2 Representative Adolph Meyer pressed Comptroller Bowler over the constitutional challenge to the law allotting 5.2 million dollars for sugar bounty payments. Bowler, wary of court rulings, holds funds and delays warrants until August 7 hearing. Louisiana planters, ready with counsel, await outcome and possible warrants.
Nashville business leaders gather at Washville July 22 as the Tennessee centennial stockholders adjourn. Over 2,500 attend. 3,700 shareholders listed. new directors named to fill vacancies and future officers proposed. Officers likely include John W. Thomas as president and Van Le Kerkman as first vice president. Subscriptions rise by 3,000 to 1,000 dollars.
John L Walden former treasurer of the Dime Savings Bank of Willimantic disappeared after leaving Wilramantic and is believed to have sailed for Australia. Assistant Superintendent Fred D Hine of Pinkerton is investigating. The bank vault shortage totals 26500 with 11000 in payt road bonds 00 in clerk mortgages 5000 to pay depositors and 34400 in cash short for some time.

In Jacksonville Florida on July 22 Robert Co Scott former city treasurer assaulted EH Eshe a member of a committee probing a $10 000 deficit dispute. Scott denies theft charges claiming political enemies are persecuting him. He alleges possible blackmail and bribe attempts as the conflict within local democrats continues.
Ocala July meeting of the Florida miners organization states reports of 110 000 tons phosphate rock in Florida are inaccurate. After review the stock on hand is capped at 80 000 tons with about half already contracted and 10 000 tons unavailable for shipment due to distance or quality. Readily available rock does not exceed 30 400 tons, most held by the association and not offered given current prices. Large sales have been made absent Florida purchases. The meeting deems the situation accurately portrayed and urges public knowledge.
