Fort Smith Ark July 18 On application of William P Riley of New York the Kansas City and Memphis railroad with headquarters at Rogers Ark was placed in the hands of receivers today The road is capitalized at 6000000 J B Felker president and O Disman general manager were named receivers The Kansas City and Memphis railroad is seventy three miles long and traverses the rich fruit belt of northwest Arkansas The complaint alleges two mortgages against the property one for 860000 expiring in six months and another for 503 400 plus floating indebtedness of 90000 which the road cannot meet The company failed to pay interest on a mortgage due July 1 and fear is expressed the property will be attached to satisfy claims Riley has a freight overcharge bill of 181 pending against the road
