War Against Oil Trust Moved From Cleveland To Chicago Courts
The federal grand jury in Cleveland found no indictments against Standard Oil Company and the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway for interstate commerce violations. Jurisdiction issues led to transferring the case to Chicago, with proceedings to be instituted there in federal court. The attorney general and special counsel outlined plans for trial in Chicago, noting the lack of jurisdiction in the North District of Ohio and the broader anti trust push under Elkins and commerce acts.
