Baltimore dispatches reveal a sharp clash over congressional power and new federal election rules. Republicans push to seize control of voting, deploy troops, and punish dissent while Democrats rally for constitutional rights and fair representation, sparking intense party tension and predicted fallout in coming elections.
The civil service commission announces examinations to fill el igible registers in southern states. Extra examinations will be held at listed cities on specified dates to address shortages for postal and railway mail services. Applications on forms from the commission in Washington.
Chairman Cannon of the House Appropriations Committee disputes Senator Allison’s total appropriations for the current session. He provides a detailed alternative of 399 million dollars, noting deductions and the fiscal year 1900 and 1901 figures. He argues existing law yields no shortfall and addresses pensions and taxation projections.
At the Tennessee Democratic state convention in Masavines delegates attend amid a large turnout.
