Bonds to finance Panama Canal cost proposed by Taft era
Washington July 15 Congress to be asked by President Taft to authorize bonds equal to the latest estimate of the Panama canal cost. The plan uses a Goethals figure of 397 million dollars, with bonds to bear up to 3 percent interest. Treasurys first issue would reimburse the treasury balance and include 50 million for canal zone purchase and related expenses.
