Cyclone Sweeps Grand Rapids Injuring Dozens
Grand Rapids Mich July 19 a cyclone struck the city causing injury to forty or more persons and heavy property damage. The storm hit southwest entering near 4 o clock hitting the city market and adjacent baseball park. Roofs were torn from stands and hurled about scattering farmers and teams. Panic followed as horses knocked people down and several were rendered unconscious. Nellie Wiersma, a fruit seller, was crushed by wagons while attempting to calm frightened horses. Many others suffered broken limbs and the storm indirectly caused the death of seven year old Charles Gos due to a nervous condition worsened by the shock.
