Georgia Peach Prices Highlight Georgia Texas Gap

G J S Walker of Brollard Texas asks why Georgia peach prices are higher as Georgia Fruit Exchange markets about 60 percent of the Georgia crop. On July 11, 54 car loads ranged from 43 cents to 1.17 dollars per crate, with an average near 85 cents. Factors include yield, rains lowering early-grade fruit, and Georgia packs more baskets per crate. The Constitution credits organization and the Georgia Peach Exchange’s formation in 1908 for higher prices, contrasting with Texas being unorganized.
