Athens tragedy ends in fatal shooting after heated exchange

In Athens a dispute between T. V. Murray and R. L. Reaves outside a Commercial Street establishment escalated into gunfire. Reaves was mortally wounded. Murray fled through town, later reported to face a possible return. Reaves, a livery stable operator, died from a bullet wound near the liver, as doctors deemed his condition hopeless.

President Cleveland Visits Sister in New York State

President Cleveland and Mrs. Cleveland arrived at Holland Patent at 5 AM by special train. They stayed at Miss Rose Elizabeth Cleveland’s home The Weeds and were greeted by locals and family friends. A reception followed at 2 PM with many visitors, while the president toured the grounds with a physician’s invitation and planned visits to Clinton and Forest Park.

Fidelity’s Charter Lofts Bank in Final Decree

Government Receipts and Expenditures Reported

Heavy government receipts for July reach 10,693,567 with expenditures near 18,561,103, including 12,000,000 in pension payments, creating a deficit of 7,867,545. Fire at Anthony's photograph firm on Broadway causes vast loss

A large fire at E and H T Anthony's long established photograph material house, 501 Broadway, New York, destroyed the five story building and caused extensive damage to adjacent properties. Four firemen were overcome by heat. total loss estimated at 125000 dollars with insured coverage.

Whisky shortage stuns Kentucky distilleries and theft claims

In Frankfort Kentucky a major whisky shortage emerged after investigators from Washington inspected bonded warehouses of O. F. C. and Oarrige distilleries owned by E. H. Taylor. Of 17 000 barrels examined 4 400 required re gouging with barrels found almost empty and others short by 10 to 38 gallons. Officials say 12 000 gallons were stolen amid leaks and locked coopers, with owners facing about seven thousand dollars in losses.
