Hearing Promised for Woman Suffragists By House Panel
Washington July 10 The House committee on Tales promised a hearing next December on adding a committee on woman suffrage to the standing committees. Mrs Helen Gardener led a delegation including the wives of Senators Shafroth and Representatives Baker Stone and Taylor. The panel cannot take up the measure this session but will hear suffragists between early December and Christmas. The suffrage advocates argued one fifth of Senate and one seventh of House members come from suffrage states and that 1916 could see nearly 1 000 000 women voting. they noted previous referrals to the judiciary have stalled such measures. Senate debate on a constitutional amendment to enfranchise women was blocked by Senator Thornton.
