Lauterbach grilled as Lamar case nears ends

Washington July 7 The Senate lobby inquiry into Wall Street dealings with David Lamar continued with Ba ward Lauterbach, Lamar’s associate, testifying that he was the innocent victim and vicarious sacrifice in negotiations involving the Morgan firm, Steel interests, New York attorneys, and congressmen. He defended his long association with Tart as honorable and profitable, admitted surrounding plans to halt actions until key figures could be persuaded to approve, and denied concealing facts while acknowledging pressures from Lamar. He denied intent to shake down Morgan interests and maintained his authority came from Lamar and Spraker Clark, not Stone or Sten, amid tense cross examination by Senators Reed and Nelson.
