Rioters Attempt Storm Jail as Soldiers Repel Attack

Evansville Ind July 6 rioters sought to storm the Vanderburg county jail after four days of unrest. Seven were killed and at least fourteen injured with many more hurt. Soldiers fired blank rounds and then live ammunition as a mob of about 1000 advanced. Several rioters and bystanders were struck by bullets. two deputy sheriffs were wounded.
