Frederick Hellman sixty six years old Mason contractor killed his wife Ida forty three? and four children by gas at the Hellman cottage on Carnelia street. The Morrissey Club was first to bow out and Canfield signaled permanent closure at police HQ. Ex President Caleb Mitchell also followed, leaving residents abuzz over the crackdown.

General Matt W. Ransom United States minister to Mexico is in Washington and hopes to resume his post in Mexico City if his health holds. After a serious illness in Mexico prompted a return to North Carolina it had been expected he would resign after leave. He appeared at the State Department today signaling a restoration progress with no setback anticipated.
The US cruiser Marbiehead arrived in St Petersburg and anchored near the Vyborg embankment, drawing crowds. Crowds at Cronstadt greeted the ship warmly, with the Russian flagship Alexander II and cruiser Asia manning their rigging as the welcome extended.
