A loud explosion near midnight shattered the Capitol public reception room on the Senate side. No one was harmed. Officials suspect a crank aimed to create a sensation. visitors had left for the day and the room was empty.
G Warring, 24, of Florence, came to Atlanta seeking work when he ingested permanganate of potash. He was found in a dying condition, treated at Grady Hospital, and revived after poison was removed. He spoke of a past marriage and financial woes, saying he would reform and stay alive. He was moved to Observation Ward as his condition improves.
Paris July 2 General Porfirio Diaz former president of Mexico died here early tonight. His wife Carmen Romero Rubio Diaz and their son Porfirio Diaz Jr. and his wife were by his side. The exiled leader had been failing for weeks, heart failure cited as the probable cause. Notable Mexican officials who aided him away from power were elsewhere, with most remaining in Europe.
The Education Board moves toward centralizing Atlanta High Schools under a single supervisor role with the Boys High principal as head. The plan unites the four schools the Boys High Tech High Girls High and the new consolidated commercial high school under one coordinated program to boost efficiency and coherence. Annie T Wise would lead the consolidated commercial high school for boys and girls, with other principals maintaining executive duties as coordinators. The effort aims to align curricula and administration across the four schools and accelerate consolidation this year.
West Point Georgia July 2 Special. Attorney Walter McKinney seeks judge Price Gilbert to back the inquest into the Melton and Leake killings amid riverfront unrest. Inquest postponed to Monday as crowds gather and witnesses come forward about the journey of the Hargett and Manse Teal families. An anonymous warning to McKinney accompanies river turbulence and ferry destruction, raising fears of feud violence along the Georgia Alabama border.

The mother declares she would bury him to save him.
In Marietta Georgia a marble slab marking the grave of Mary Phagan was unveiled by the United Confederate Veterans camp No 168 in the presence of about 500 people. J G Worris, camp commander, presided as master of ceremonies and several talks were given.
