The Prussian Polish provinces would stay Prussian if no Diet could be convened elsewhere. Pomplin said the issue belongs in the Prussian diet.
A head on collision near Hazelton between an express from Wilkes-Barre and a freight train on the Schuylkill Valley line left three dead and numerous injured. Engineers and firemen perished. a colored porter and several passengers were severely hurt or lightly injured. Causes cited include orders misreading on the single track between Hazelton and Lofty. A relief train and physicians aided at Hazelton hospital. Deaths also reported in a mine accident at Death Valley, with three men buried by a cave-in while retimbering a shaft.
In Bingham Utah today a mine slope caused the ground to sink, swallowing the Johnson residence and instantly killing two of miner James Johnson's sons aged 3 and 5. Mrs Johnson, one child, and three other youngsters escaped unharmed in the remaining portion of the house.
Anxiety runs high in Washington for Captain W 5S Overton of the artillery corps who left Washington for San Francisco last week. No word has come since his departure and it is feared he may have been aboard the west bound train wrecked on the Southern Pacific near Tucson Arizona.
Plainfield resident William H Clark, among the Grace land wreck victims, died Tuesday evening in New Jersey. Fireman Samuel McCarthy, Reading Railroad, is listed critical, and Everett Reighton of Plainfield remains a casualty. Hospitalized survivors are reported as holding their own. The death raises the total dead to twenty two.
Havana reports lukewarm interest in paying for Spanish guns left in a Cuban fortress.
