Columbia January 25 the South Carolina house of representatives voted tonight 4 to 1 in favor of repealing the cotton acreage reduction law passed at the extraordinary session in October. A large majority of farmers supported repeal. The house 81 to 22 refused to strike out enacting words and sent the bill to third reading. The act limits planted cotton to one third of cultivated land.

Capt Dodge and Crew Rescued from Dismasted Schooner
New York January 25 The steamer El Valle from Galveston arrived today with Captain Dodge and nine crew members rescued from the schooner Mary L Baxter of Tampa Florida. The Mary L Baxter, bound for Baltimore, was dismasted in a hurricane about 80 miles north of Cape Hatteras January 14. At 2 o clock Sunday morning the men clung to the vessel for eleven hours before El Valle rescued them.
