Hardwick Replying to Fleming In Congressional Candidacy
In a two column letter dated January 24 from Sanders and released to The Augusta Evening Journal, Mr. Hardwick subjects Fleming’s announcement to strong critique. He defends the right of any district citizen to aspire to Congress, rebuts claims of his own “great experience,” and attacks the political maneuvering over amendments and disfranchisement. He argues the race should be debated on issues, not personal grounds, and invites Fleming to face him in public discussion.
