Sailors Rescued After Leyden Tug Crash Off Block Island

Block Island January 21 Special The United States tug Leiden from San Juan to Newport ran aground in fog off Block Island. Sixteen men escaped in a boat then were rescued by life savers Captain Littlefield’s crew from New Skorham station. One seaman Leviamne was badly injured, twenty six waited ashore as lifeboat missions failed. Coast guard apparatus saved all aboard by 2 o'clock as crews treated survivors at the life saving station.
