Cooperation urged at Georgia fruit growers conference
Athens January 20 8preiai of general and particular interest at the Conference of Farm and Farmers Wives now in possession at the State College of Agriculture today was the address of Manager J M Fleming of the Georgia Fruit Exchange with headquarters in Atlanta on Cooperation and the Georgia Fruit Exchange. Fleming said cooperation among all the growers could bring about conditions equal the one man ownership. He noted that cooperative marketing of perishables is spreading and credited the Georgia Fruit Exchange with organizing a system to distribute markets and reduce glutted or empty markets. He described selective market houses and the necessity of members to support the exchange to avoid nonmembers undercutting prices. The plan includes cutting commission from 10 to 8 percent and using contracts with commission houses to fund expenses, making the organization self supporting and cheaper for growers.

Shoe Dealers Win Lower Rate Decision in Atlanta
The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled today that the rate of 106 per hundred pounds for lean carload shipments of boots and shoes from Easton and New York to Atlanta was excessive and must drop to 95 cents. Beginning April 1, this marks a decisive victory for boot and shoe dealers after a long fight dating back to the 1904 convention in Atlanta which set 105 a hundred pounds with a 65 cent rate on carloads. The ruling could lower shoe prices and impact rail carriers nationwide.
