Briggs Starts Controversy In New York Church
In New York on January 17 Rev Dr Charles A Biggs of St John the Divine while teaching at the Theological Seminary sparked a controversy. George MacCulloch Miller president of the Church Club alerted Bishop Potter to a paper Biggs presented. The bishop asked for a copy for examination. The discussion suggested Apostolic succession hung by a slender historical thread and that Rome’s universal claim was strongest with Rome deeming Anglican orders invalid.
