Rail Labor Board Hearings Debated on Car Repair Rules
Chicago January 13 The railroad labor board hearing over em ployment rules for rail workers sparked a lengthy afternoon session as E T Whiter of the railroads and A O Wharton for the employes clashed over four years experience for car repair work. Whiter said experienced men were unavailable, while Wharton cited federal director decisions permitting younger workers. The dispute illustrated how rules divide shop crafts and how management argues for flexibility during slow periods to maintain service. The board adjourned to Monday with Whiter continuing to argue seventy five rules. 182 remain for shop crafts, with two weeks more likely for the latter class.
