Dr Knapp Urges North Carolina Drainage and Irrigation
Dr Seaman A Knapp spoke to North Carolina farmers on a lecture tour aimed at promoting drainage and irrigation. He outlined state land use, noting 21,192,000 acres total with 6,789,984 cultivated and 2,748,180 needing drainage, urged taxing adjacent lands to fund drainage, and warned that forests occupy a quarter of land while only one-sixth is cultivated. He predicted river damming and reservoirs could power the state and boost fruit and truck farming in the mountains and western region.
