Local option fights loom in union city and nation
Chicago dispatch reports a New Year temperance study by Michael J Fenning contending local option laws are a farce and that prohibition gains ride with party momentum only when voters support it. The piece notes Chafin’s paradox: in states voting down local option, his tally rose while in others it fell, and highlights plans for January 5 cornerstone laying for a $250000 agricultural college at Union City as part of Farmers Union demands. A separate item reports a negro horse thief captured in Moultrie after stealing a horse from Pine Park and the ongoing debate over county option impacts on prohibition votes.
