Father shoots Black man during custody incident in Bessemer
Feb 26 report says James Robinson, white father of a girl previously helped by Jim Brown, fired four rounds at a Black man handcuffed and seated in a sheriff’s car at Bessemer, fatally wounding him. He remains under the sanitarium authorities but is practically free, returning home under the care of his relatives as per typical practice for suitable patients. Bell’s father had pressed for the privilege and the court order and furlough end together, leaving Bell in a supervised but free status for the period.
