Kington February 26 Special. The House moved to close debate on the bill amid a failed quorum and continued to argue in committee of the whole. Bland vowed filibuster, silver faction pushes for open vote, while Democrats seek compromise or a voting quorum. Tensions rise as Pence clashed with opponents and a near-deadlock looms over the seigniorage provision.
Washington February 26 The House endured a tense day as Hatch seeks to move anti option out of Ways and Means. A quorum dispute led to a change of reference and Bland forced a shift to the seigniorage bill. Pence blasted Democrats and Republicans while Patterson defended voting duty amid heated exchanges and mockery of leadership. The session ended amid shouting and party barbs as debates continued.

Loss about 30000 with 12000 insurance. Cause suspected arson.
A Radford man, jailed on forgery charges, used his brother C L Lawrence's name to obtain a 56 loan from Holston National Building and Loan. He traveled by rain to Bristol, fooled M T Devault by imitating handwriting, and was arrested on a second forgery after returning to Radford.
In Washington Columbia February 26 special report Mr James Norton chief clerk in the comptroller general office published a pamphlet review of Walter Kirklands expulsion from Marion Street Methodist church for association with the dispensary. Norton roasted Pastor Ellwell and Hitler Hodges and now these men issue a card demanding Norton substantiate his charges in church courts or confess to slander.
Brenham Texas February 26 Mrs Lelna Behrens and Mrs Artelia Mohril returning from Berlin to clean family burying ground near town were attacked by two Negroes. One grabbed the horse, the other tried to enter the buggy. Mrs Behrens felled one with a shovel and beat him until unconscious. A dog mauling distracted the other as the woman used her spade to render the assailant helpless. She drove to town, saying the first man cannot live. Officers go to capture them. Alabama Commercial Association news follows with plans for a statewide commercial body gathering in Birmingham April 25 to organize a permanent Alabama association. In Charleston the court of sessions adjourns with 145 criminal cases, dispensary cases to the grand jury if not yet finished. In Dallas a jury returns a verdict of acquittal in the F. J. Wood horse embezzling case after two weeks of trial.
