In Lexington on February 24 officials deny that county officials consent was secured by Dr Walter Bullock of Lexington and Dr W B Blue of Louisville to inoculate condemned murderers Earl Whitney and Claude O’Brien with disease germs for science. A telegram from Myre Co M Hagan in Nashville to Jaffer Wallace protests the inoculation. Jailer Wallage says no regulation allows it. Rumors said Louisville doctors offered large sums to permit the experiment. Dr Bullock describes the disease as little known and Blue believes there is a cure.
