A Greek suspect already under arrest was linked to a violent incident that followed the murder of a police officer. Authorities reported a severe outbreak in the area as investigations intensified and public safety concerns grew.
About 3,000 to 4,000 people attacked Greek homes and businesses in Omaha’s Greek Quarter after a patrolman was shot. Three waves of assaults destroyed stores, damaged property, and injured several, including two teenage boys. Police and deputies struggled for hours to regain control before calm could be restored.
A mob of men and boys gathered around Ottumwa jail seeking vengeance after an alleged assault on a white woman, forcing police to move a Black suspect to safety. National Guard was deployed as vigilantes surrounded homes of Black residents, with multiple suspects taken to jail amid heightened tension.
An unidentified Navajo war chief, aided by four Sioux, attacked on Chesapeake and Ohio train No 2 in Cincinnati. He fatally stabbed Mrs Anna Deverd of Huntington WV and Max Meyers of Cincinnati, seriously wounded Joseph W Gordon of Cambridge OH. Passengers overpowered him. dagger knocked free and he was captured by police. The assailant was en route to Washington to see the Interior Secretary.
In New Orleans on February 21 Howard Lee faced trial for whisky distribution. The defense could not locate Faretta rights counsel, prompting a port city attorney call. Port Gibson’s lawyer team arrived. Lee was convicted, given a ninety day jail term and a $2500 fine.
Taft arrives in Philadelphia to map a reform agenda forcing corporate limits. He names Knox Kellogg Hitchcock as cabinet prospects while stressing constitutional checks on abuses, aiming to craft precise measures for Congress with expert advisers.
The Roosevelt review at Hampton Roads features nearly 2 000 guns in a historic salute. Twenty five battleships and officers fire a 21 gun salute on sighting the Mayflower with the president aboard. Each ship repeats the salute when the president departs, while four divisions also fire 21 guns. The display marks the greatest naval salute ever seen in the United States.
President Roosevelt sails with Mrs Roosevelt to Hampton Roads aboard the Mayflower to greet the returning battleship fleet. Off Cape Henry the ships are sighted, and a formal review by the president tomorrow will mark a historic display of the American navy with many battleships in line.
Harvard College sophomore Stewart Robinson, 19, daughter of Povelas Robinson’s family link, died after falling from a sixth floor window in Hampton Hall. He joined friends after a night out, suffered a head injury, then wandered to his brother Monroe's room before the fatal fall. Investigators suggest he lost balance while leaning out.
