Dynamite Planned as Diaz Rebels Hold Fort
Mexico City February 17. Federals prepared to use dynamite bombs in an assault on Diaz positions while a sustained attack on the Young Men's Christian Association building by rebels was repulsed. An American, Gibbons, was wounded near the embassy. Reports say Francisco De La Barra may be arrested for alleged complicity. Taft reassured Madero that US intervention was unlikely, and Madero praised the response. General Huerta anticipated a short-range bombing encirclement, with Blanquet to command reserves at the national palace. The arsenal at Diaz’s stronghold remains stubbornly defended as civilians flee danger zones and bread rations reach the capital. The fight continues with heavy casualties expected on both sides.
