Violinist kills assailant after pistol robbery at Empire theater
Indianapolis February 16. Fatally wounded Ostendorf after a quarrel with Adolph Cassau, second violinist and theater orchestra leader. Ostendorf overpowered Cassau, took his pistol and fired three shots through Cassau’s head at the rear theater door, killing him instantly. Ostendorf died in hospital about an hour later. The Empire theater, a burlesque venue, housed Ostendorf, a prominent local musician.
