Remembered Great Britain In the Days of the Civil War Voted Down Pro-Bour Resolution
Special from Columbia South Carolinas House of Representatives spent two hours debating sympathy resolutions for Boers and Filipinos. An amendment to withdraw from the Philippines war and protect Filipinos failed by five votes. A pro Boer resolution drew strong but ultimately insufficient support as South Carolinians contrasted Anglo-Saxon kinship with the Confederacy. The pro Boer measure was defeated by a large margin.
