Southern Methodist Women Demand Voting Voice in Church

A crusade for church sentiment stirs the Southern Methodist Episcopal Church South as about 960,000 women seek legal voting status equal to male members. They fund missions, hold leadership roles, yet lack final say in church legislation, a practice seen as violating the church’s organic law and Paul’s doctrine. The issue, set to rise before the next May general conference, tests long-standing governance across regional churches.
