Knoxville, Tenn February 9 special news reports a brutal robbery at Union county near Knoxville. Two masked men shot and killed Henry Snoderby aged ninety one and his wife, after forcing their grandson Sam Guinn to reveal money. The burglars took about 200 dollars, then fled on two horses. A neighbor alarm led to a wide chase with deputies tracking them toward Knoxville. the granddaughter and daughter were found frightened and missing, with fears of drowning. A large search continues as neighbors pursue the suspects who remain at large in the area.
Birmingham, February. Hon. Ad Smith, chairman of the state democratic executive committee, says the organized democrats will carry Alabama in August. He expects the Kolb faction to fail to gain a big spread and foresees a large majority if Democrats stay active. Some say the convention lacked enthusiasm while Kolb and aides are satisfied. General Lucien B. Northrup, commissary general of the Confederate army, died today at the Confederate Soldiers Home in Pikesville Maryland. A South Carolina native, he was eighty three, long a friend of Jefferson Davis and a West Point graduate in the same class as the Confederate president.
