The hoaxer fled after Arkell notified Hotel Ormond staff and Governor Mitchell ruled no law barred gator shooting. hotel offers 500 reward for capture of the impostor.
Berlin February 7 Reichstag members report details of Chancellor von Caprivi dinner speeches. Emperor William praised the czar as a prince of peace and cited intimate relations, warned that rejection of the commercial treaty would hurt Germans. He also supported a grain tariff of 34% to aid farmers.
Rio de Janeiro reports martial law will end February 26 and presidential elections set for March 1. The senate president Th Prumento de Moraes is named as the sole candidate, a civilian from Sao Paulo state, with note he may win broad support.
