Fire sweeps New Star Theater in Atlanta blaze
Yesterday morning a fierce fire gutted the New Star Theater on Decatur Street in Atlanta. Firefighters battled inside flames as a vaudeville troupe rehearsed, saving many but leaving the building with extensive damage and little insurance. The venue, valued around 310,000, lost the roof and upper floors while performers escaped with only their clothing. Fire officials praised the department’s rapid flood method and coordinated effort to prevent spread to adjacent businesses.
