Dove drive tragedy kills 12 year old Humphrey in Aiken

In Aiken South Carolina while taking part in a dove drive,B F Tyler accidentally fired killing C A Humphrey's 12 year old son on the top of the head. Tyler then attempted suicide. The boy who died attended Ivy Street School in Atlanta and was visiting his mother and family in Aiken for Christmas holidays. The funeral is expected in Aiken where the family once lived.

Five Clark Family Dead In Watertown Home Fire

Boston December 2 Five members of the John Clark family perish in a fire that destroyed their Watertown home. Neighbors found the father John and two boys but the mother and younger daughter were recovered only after the ruin cooled. The residence valued at about 5000 dollars stood two miles from central Watertown. John Clark was a wakeman in a Boston store.

Reprieve delays hanging on Alabama scaffold

In Birmingham on December 27 a black-clad execution was halted when a telegram from the governor ordered a 15 day reprieve for Henry Thaxton, convicted of the killing of T. Hunstucker. Preachers prayed, hymns were sung, and Thaxton cried out "My God" as officials paused the gallows scene before returning him to jail in prayer.

Escape for All but Baby After Big Train Crash

Detroit December 27 a Grand Trunk passenger train No 8 collided head on with a double head freight near Lenox Ad. Five trainmen died four instantly and the fifth three hours later. All passengers escaped injury except a baby thrown from its mother’s arms. Engineers Bennett Bohowshen and Boughner Firemen McCalm and Washburn and switchman Taylor perished. Hang and Washburn of the second freight escaped. Fog and a misclosed switch are blamed for the wreck.
