Grave charges and coerced settlement in court case
A. L. Fuss recounts to attorney Sid ney Tapp a July 1903 incident at a mill where Bailiff Farmer and Guthrie pressed for 350 dollars in costs to arrest him. Fuss describes paying 356 dollars, signing a wages note for 160 cents, and being released, with a second warrant failing to trigger further action. He claims coercive pressure and lack of chance to secure legal aid, noting the judge warned against pursuing the case further. He asserts later attempts to settle with W P Gadd and the Heaton Loan Company.
