Trust Company Sues To Block Taxes On Alabama Stock
The Central Trust Company of New York seeks a federal injunction against the Central of Georgia Railroad Comptroller General Wright and Sheriff Nelms to stop taxes on 15,000 shares of Western Railroad of Alabama stock valued at 1.5 million. Judge Newman issued a temporary restraining order with a January 10 hearing. The suit claims the shares are held in trust, and taxation would unfairly tax property in Alabama for a stock located elsewhere. King and Spalding represent the trust company.
