Through Rates Deliberations End in Court Dismissal
In Macon Georgia December 21 the interstate commerce case against Louisville and Nashville Florida Central and Peninsular and Savannah Florida and Western railroads ended with a court order suspending contempt actions. Rail officials argued they followed counsel and decree and would implement through rates by January 1 but noted earlier misinstruction caused some locals to match condemned through rates. The court approved a joint through rate plan to Savannah on cotton resin and turpentine with caps and allowances, suspending contempt against Miller H. Smith Demhham and Walter Hale, with modification rights for substantial changes. Court costs to be paid by the railroads with refunds for excess charges. The ruling aligns with the commission’s decree and set conditions for rate adjustments.
