Sheriff Moreland Killed In Whites and Blacks Battle
Leesburg Georgia December 19 Sheriff D R Moreland of Lee county was fatally shot during a clash with blacks at Doles Worth county. Posse reports deny lynching of any blacks and say no further trouble is expected as hunters from Lee Worth and Daugherty counties pursue suspects. Moreland, 26, leaves a widow and two children. His body was brought to Leesburg with funeral planned for tomorrow.

Minister loses height with death in Big Creek rescue
Rev. Furman T. Williams, pastor of Baptist churches in Alpharetta and Roswell, died after two hours clinging to a tree trunk in the icy Big Creek near Cumming Forsyth and Milton counties. His body was recovered this morning after crowds gathered and rescue attempts failed. He leaves a wife and child. Burial will be tomorrow.
