Tallassee Dar Proves Success
Montgomery December 14 Special. The Tallassee electric power scheme grew from ambition and not cold calculation. Henry C. Jenes, an early engineer, led the effort to harness the Coosa and Tallapoosa rivers, acquiring land and organizing two companies. By 1902 a major dam was completed, later consolidated into Montgomery Light and Water Power Company with 1.5 million in stock and bonds. The plant delivers 5,000 horsepower to Montgomery, and Jenes is famed for the first long distance use of water power in a southern city, though costs and capitalization now total about 3 million.
