G O P May Convene Before Democrats in 1916 Nomination Contest
Washington December 13 preliminary skirmishes before the Republican National Committee decides tomorrow the time and place for the 1916 Republican national convention to nominate the party's candidate for president. St Louis and Chicago are seen as the leading cities, with San Francisco and Philadelphia backing Missouri if a deadlock occurs. The committee is expected to adjourn tomorrow night after briefing on the city contest and delegate apportionment. The apportionment plan would cut southern delegates, reducing total members from 1,078 in 1912 to about 985, with New York the sole northern loss. About six hundred delegates will come from primaries, 386 from state conventions. A banquet by GOP league groups featured Weekes, Sherman, John Hays Hammond, and Henry Castabrrook.
