Advertising industry in bicycle boom and the trust collapse
The text describes a fierce era of bicycle advertising where one tenth of all ads in magazines and newspapers promoted bicycles, with Col Pope claiming vast advertising influence. The formation of a trust reduced many makers to a single American Bicycle Company ad, erasing brands and editors, leaving one ad writer to placard all. Readers then seek merit and choice, not sameness, or else lose interest.
