Two of the Ladners of Philadelphia and Pauabtavata are under warrants for embezzlement. William T. Ladner and Louis J. Ladner face charges of $23,200, with bail set totaling over $11,000. The magistrate ordered Louis jailed for lack of identity coverage and William held sick in Atlantic City pending Tuesday hearing. Also reported: mail pouch robbery near Palmer with 400 letters opened and scattered. postmaster to remake delivery. An unsuccessful defaulter, Samuel Roberts of Witnesname, attempted suicide and assigned $8,000 in household property to Charles Parish, amid plans to leave town.
August 20 report from Wuertina West Virginia says a Cleveland and Lorain and Wheeling freight train derailed near Stillwater. Engineer John Exton and brakeman James Holger were killed. Fourteen cars wrecked. Holger perished in flames from steam exposure.
