Denies He Forced Son to Sell Papers Before Returning Home

In a juvenile police court story, eight year old Louis Mitnick testified that his father Abel Mitnick forced him to sell thirty five cents worth of papers nightly, threatening a beating if the amount failed. Louis recounted begging strangers on Peachtree Street until exhausted, with an officer later taking him to the station. The court, noting a second offense for neglect, jailed Abel Mitnick for three days and ordered Probation Officer Gleer to assist the family, while Louis defended the idea of selling papers and refused a newspaper portrait.

In Soperton Georgia on August 27 two Black men were fatally harmed by a mob and a pursuing posse over the ally of a planter’s wife. A rising violence followed as Ben Mark an escaped convict died after a fierce encounter, and Jean Sweeney harbored him and was killed after being taken from a train. Sheriff James Lester and other posse members were wounded. Clarke was captured as the search for Sweeney’s wife continued.

Henry Farman Dominates Air Race With Record Flight

English aviator Henry Farman flew a self designed heavier-than-air biplane and set world endurance records in a 180 kilometer flight lasting 3 hours 4 minutes 56 seconds winning the Grand Prix de la Champagne.
