A small newsboy tells The Constitution reporter of a hard life and unpaid school clothes. He walked three miles to town each day, bought papers, faced rejection, and bought his own supply when others would not credit him. He sought money to buy clothes and attended to duties with stoic resolve.
In a juvenile police court story, eight year old Louis Mitnick testified that his father Abel Mitnick forced him to sell thirty five cents worth of papers nightly, threatening a beating if the amount failed. Louis recounted begging strangers on Peachtree Street until exhausted, with an officer later taking him to the station. The court, noting a second offense for neglect, jailed Abel Mitnick for three days and ordered Probation Officer Gleer to assist the family, while Louis defended the idea of selling papers and refused a newspaper portrait.
A noon blast at Bocachica on the Florida East Coast Railway killed twelve men and injured many more. A worker's cigarette dropped into a fuse box igniting 790 pounds of dynamite as the crew stood in four feet of water. Victims arrived from New York last Sunday. several critically hurt later died.
Wireless operator Booth reports the steamship Ohio sank near Steep Point Alaska after striking a rock. Five lives lost to the Alaska Steamship Company disaster. passengers rescued by Humboldt Rupert City Kingfisher and others. Judge H. Parker of Baxley city court and Solicitor W. E. Padgett agreed to swap positions. Both resigned to take effect September 16, and Governor Brown appointed Padgett as judge and Parker as solicitor for their respective unexpired terms. Arrangement said to be for business reasons.

Aume driver Vantine narrowly dodges another wreck as Hughes Hart is burned earlier. Spectators numbered fifteen thousand with three thousand cars present as the event resumes after a brief stoppage.

In Soperton Georgia on August 27 two Black men were fatally harmed by a mob and a pursuing posse over the ally of a planter’s wife. A rising violence followed as Ben Mark an escaped convict died after a fierce encounter, and Jean Sweeney harbored him and was killed after being taken from a train. Sheriff James Lester and other posse members were wounded. Clarke was captured as the search for Sweeney’s wife continued.
English aviator Henry Farman flew a self designed heavier-than-air biplane and set world endurance records in a 180 kilometer flight lasting 3 hours 4 minutes 56 seconds winning the Grand Prix de la Champagne. Latham finished second as other contestants trailed in a crowded field including Paunam de Lambert and Tissandier. Farman’s surprise victory came as watchers noted his secretive preparations and long fuel allotment for a potential five hour flight.
