New York August 33 William E Beverly formerly chief clerk in the employ of the concern was appointed assignee today of the suspended stock commission house of M J Sage & Co with offices in Jersey City and branches county wide. Beverly found liabilities about 330000 with assets of 118000 and filed a 3000000 bond with United States Fidelity and Guaranty Co as surety. All assets are to be delivered to Beverly and the guaranty company. Adams the former policy king was reported to be interested, but Albert J Adams Jr said his father had no interest in M J Sage & Co and that only Albert Adams was involved as largest creditor and beneficiary.

Third Lynching in Ten Days Rocks South Carolina
In St George Dorchester County a 21 year old North Carolina Negro, Willie Spain, was hanged by a large mob after attempting to enter the home of Connor, Dorchester Lumber Company manager. The mob seized the jail keys, dragged Spain from Connor’s house, and shot him about 500 times, the body left in pieces. Governor Heyward was notified but the lynching proceeded despite the marshal’s effort to stop it.

Sheriff reports 21 arrests in railroad camp shooting

Record breaking log raft reaches San Francisco harbor
The steamer Francis TH Leggett arrived from Astoria towing the largest log raft seen in the harbor. The raft measures eleven million feet of lumber, 740 feet long, 60 feet wide, and 24 feet deep, with a 500 ton lighter on top used to store chains.
